SNSF funds 3 clinical trials from Bern within the 2019-IICT-Program-Call

The Investigator Initiated Clinical Trials (IICT) program of the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) is dedicated to academic clinical trials. Since 2016, the SNSF has funded excellent clinical trials from various medical disciplines. In the 2019 call, the SNSF evaluated 29 proposals, five of which will now receive grants worth 12.4 million francs in total. Three of these were submitted by researchers from the University of Bern/Inselspital and all are supported by CTU Bern:

  • Iris Baumgartner, Department of Angiology: Do patients suffering from a diabetic foot ulcer and chronic arterial circulatory problems profit from an early intervention that aims to improve blood circulation in the legs?
  • Nicolas Rodondi, Institute of Primary Health Care (BIHAM): Can medications that lower blood-cholesterol levels safely be discontinued in elderly patients who have various illnesses but a healthy heart?
  • Maja Steinlin, Department of Pediatrics: Does administering steroids in high doses help children suffering from stroke and a one-sided narrowing of brain arteries?
