MAS/DAS/CAS in Translation and Entrepreneurship in Medicine: Start of second cohort in April 2018
Translational medicine is a new, process-oriented discipline that aims to translate new findings and products emerging from private-sector development and basic research into clinical applications.
The sitem-insel School, school for Translational and Entrepreneurial Medicine, aims at counteracting the current shortcoming in the translation process: the lack of professionalization. Thus, the program targets the education of academic specialists in the field of translational medicine and entrepreneurship. Participants are expected to acquire the necessary skills to initiate and implement the process of transition of biomedical products from the stage of development in industrial or basic science institutions into clinical applications with the ultimate goal of their commercialization.
Teachers and supervisors involved in the program have different backgrounds: professionals of research and development oriented private companies, scientists from universities/ETH/FH and collaborators from regulatory agencies, financial experts or clinicians.
The program is approved by the University of Bern and therefore the prerequisites for admission are the same as for entering the University of Berne. As a corollary, the participants will be in a group of postgraduate students at a high academic level. The program is open for all academic disciplines. The study program applies “blended learning": the curriculum involves face-to-face sessions, as well as and for the most part, distance e-learning. For the MAS program, a limited number of scholarships is available (CHF 31‘500.- per student). It is also possible to attend single modules (in case there still places available, i.e. the programme is not fully booked).
The sitem school’s MAS allows to perform investigations at the edge between medtech/pharmaceutical industry and university based clinical development. Specialists in that area are desperately needed in both, industry and university.
